- 0:17I'm Mike Jones, I'm CTO at Love Holidays, but I've also looked after the contact centre here for the last four years too.
- 0:23Love Holidays is a leading online travel agent.
- 0:25We operate in eight different countries across Europe.
- 0:28we use our technology to process trillions, well 60 trillion package combinations each day to help
- 0:32people find their perfect holiday. At Love Holidays our platform vision is to build the general
- 0:39intelligence for travel. Bringing together the great technology that we have with the people
- 0:43expertise and Codex is basically the means that we're democratizing all of that work across the
- 0:48organization. At Love Holidays Codex is becoming a single control plane, a single interface that is
- 0:57shared by engineers, by data scientists and by business.
- 1:01It has a lot of power through that because you no longer need to teach everyone a different tool.
- 1:08We codify all the best practices. We codify validation. We continuously approve it each time
- 1:14we notice that actually we had the wrong assumptions or the reality has changed. This
- 1:18means that expertise of data engineers or cloud infrastructure engineers is fully codified so
- 1:24the best they know, it's now also available to Codex and therefore anybody self-serving
- 1:30their infrastructure data needs get that expertise on top 24x7.
- 1:37We want to decouple our ability to trial new ideas from actual engineering time.
- 1:43Our engineers developed a portal called Search Playground, which is using our design systems
- 1:49that uses our front-end technologies and it has an interface to Codex.
- 1:54We have developed more than 10 different novel search experience.
- 2:00Majority of those were developed by non-engineers.
- 2:02What they provide is an ability to have an idea,
- 2:06materialize it into a real website that's running,
- 2:08share the same websites with external customers,
- 2:11gather their feedback, or actually launch real experiments on our website.
- 2:17Over the last year, AI-assisted coding has gone from essentially zero
- 2:21to about 80% of all of our code.
- 2:23and that's helped us actually go a lot faster than we've done previously.
- 2:26In that time, we've increased deploys by about 73%
- 2:30with the headcount remaining broadly the same.
- 2:33We doubled the amount of changes down to our data,
- 2:37yet we have half as many support requests coming in.
- 2:40Users of our data platform can make a lot more changes autonomously,
- 2:46whilst data infrastructure engineers can spend more time actually improving the platform,
- 2:50making it smoother again or solving novel problems that we couldn't address previously.
- 2:56Technology is just a means to an end. It's not about the technology itself,
- 3:00it's about the impact that it has. Making sure that we're really intentional about
- 3:04not just giving people access to the tools but helping them solve business problems and
- 3:07measuring the impact that they're having. Everybody is a builder. Making changes to our
- 3:13applications, infrastructure and deploying code is no longer engineering-only activity. We have
- 3:18product managers, designers and commercial business stakeholders driving value and making deployments.
