  1. 0:04Seaboard would not exist without GitHub.
  2. 0:07The project started on GitHub in 2017, when Sheikhojokaru created the first version of an open-source communication board for people who cannot speak.
  3. 0:17A little later, after my ALS diagnosis, I joined the project.
  4. 0:21At that moment, accessibility stopped being only a technical challenge for me.
  5. 0:26It became personal.
  6. 0:27I was losing my own voice, and I understood deeply that communication is not a luxury.
  7. 0:33Communication is dignity, autonomy, and human connection.
  8. 0:37From that first open-source project, Seaboard grew into a global AAC platform.
  9. 0:43Today it is used by children and adults with autism, cerebral palsy, ALS, and other speech
  10. 0:49disabilities.
  11. 0:50A community of developers, therapists, translators, families, and users helped us improve it,
  12. 0:55translate it, and bring it to more people around the world. That is the power of open source.
  13. 1:01People from different places can build something together that truly changes lives. That open
  14. 1:07source foundation also opened the door to support from UNICEF and Microsoft. Their support helped
  15. 1:13us scale our impact and reach more users, families, educators, and organizations. It also helped us
  16. 1:20build a broader ecosystem around communication and accessibility.
  17. 1:24That ecosystem includes Cboard and Cbuilder.
  18. 1:27It also includes Cfluent and now Cboard Access.
  19. 1:32For us, GitHub is not only where the code lives.
  20. 1:34It is where the community began, where the collaboration started, and where the project
  21. 1:39became real.
  22. 1:41Without GitHub, we would not have had the same open global collaborative path that allowed
  23. 1:46Cboard to grow.
  24. 1:47Cboard is proof that open source can give people a voice.
  25. 1:51Thank you for the opportunity to share this story.
