- 0:02We are on the Chevalier battery energy storage system site and it's located in
- 0:07Nantes in the west of France.
- 0:13The history of the site is that we are on a former coal power plant.
- 0:16That power plant was providing electricity to a large part of the west of France.
- 0:22In the 90s the plant was decommissioned, it was part of France's transition to renewable
- 0:27energies and if we pass forward, Tesla and Harmony came together to transform this site
- 0:33into a battery energy storage system.
- 0:35We contracted with Tesla on the basis of a full-wrapped EPC, so the design and engineering,
- 0:42the procurement and the construction of the site.
- 0:45And today, Tesla remains very involved in this project because they're in charge of
- 0:50the ongoing operation and maintenance as well as optimizing the services that are provided
- 0:55buy these batteries themselves and that happens through Tesla's AutoBidder platform.
- 1:03AutoBidder is an optimization service using long-term forecasting, short-term forecasting,
- 1:08real-time inputs both from weather data, system information as well as customer feedback to
- 1:14optimize the system and maximize the revenues for our customers as well as providing the optimal
- 1:18services for the grid. Our customers wherever they are can see the real-time trading that we have.
- 1:25There's wholesale markets, that's like your day ahead energy auctions, as well as real-time spot markets for wholesale and arbitrage between those multiple energy markets.
- 1:33We are also active in ancillary contracts, so that can be balancing services with the system operator or frequency services, as well as local flexibility markets from the distribution network operator.
- 1:46The monitoring of the site is undertaken by teams within Tesla onto which Harmony can
- 1:51access via the platforms and the monitoring screens that we have based in the London and
- 1:55the French offices.
- 1:57We can make sure the battery is as healthy as possible and that's really important because
- 2:02it helps the investment decision.
- 2:03The more money we can make on the battery, the more batteries that our customers can
- 2:07then build out and the more available that battery can be to support the grid.
- 2:13Tesla is a top performer in every single market that we participate in. Coming to France was the
- 2:18first for Harmony with the Chevrolet project as well as for Tesla on the equipment side.
- 2:23We worked incredibly closely and what was great to see the day that the project was switched on
- 2:27was online. We were straight into the market. The auto bidder platform was operational.
- 2:33We are also vertically integrated with our Megapack teams so we can really optimize across
- 2:37everything we do in Megapack to everything we do in AutoBidder to go live the first day that the battery is ready
- 2:42and also have maximum revenue possible from day one.
- 2:46I'm from Nantes, so I was very proud to see this product executed in a city where I spend a lot of my time.
- 2:52Megapack is here to help to decarbonize the grid, to secure the grid.
- 2:56Tesla is trying to make it easy for everybody to operate those batteries and AutoBidder is a key part of that.
