  1. 0:00Love the Copilot app, but still want to finish in your editor?
  2. 0:03You can.
  3. 0:04A session isn't trapped in the app.
  4. 0:06It opens right in VS Code with everything intact.
  5. 0:09This is the question a lot of developers ask the moment they try the app,
  6. 0:12and the answer is a happy one.
  7. 0:14So in this video, let me show you the handoff,
  8. 0:17and it's smoother than you'd expect.
  9. 0:23Agents are great at doing the bulk of a change,
  10. 0:26the repetitive, time-consuming part,
  11. 0:27but sometimes you want to tweak a detail by hand,
  12. 0:30step through the code to understand it,
  13. 0:32or just work in the editor you already know and love.
  14. 0:35The app is built for exactly that handoff.
  15. 0:37It expects you'll want to jump in.
  16. 0:39So you're never forced to choose between agent help
  17. 0:41and your own hands-on editing.
  18. 0:43You get both on the very same piece of work
  19. 0:46and you can move between them whenever it suits you.
  20. 0:48The agent does the heavy lifting
  21. 0:50and you add the final human touches.
  22. 0:52Click open NBS code
  23. 0:54and you have other options to choose from as well.
  24. 0:57and the session comes with you,
  25. 0:59not just the files, the whole context.
  26. 1:02It's not a fresh empty window
  27. 1:04where you have to get your bearings.
  28. 1:05The session's context, the task, the plan,
  29. 1:08the conversation so far is right there in the sidebar.
  30. 1:12It's the same session you started in the app,
  31. 1:14just in a new home.
  32. 1:15From here, you can keep prompting Copilot
  33. 1:18or take over and type yourself,
  34. 1:20whatever you prefer in the moment.
  35. 1:22Nothing got lost in the move
  36. 1:23and you don't have to re-explain a thing.
  37. 1:25Two more things travel with you,
  38. 1:27and they're the ones that really matter.
  39. 1:29First, the diff.
  40. 1:30The exact changes the agent made show up as your diff,
  41. 1:33ready to review line by line,
  42. 1:35right where VS Code users already look for changes.
  43. 1:38Second, and this is the clever bit,
  44. 1:40is the work tree opens too.
  45. 1:42Remember from the sessions video
  46. 1:44that each session has its own copy of the branch?
  47. 1:47VS Code opens that same work tree,
  48. 1:49so you're editing exactly what the agent was,
  49. 1:52not a copy, not your main branch,
  50. 1:54the real workspace with nothing else disturbed.
  51. 1:57It's a true continuation, not a reconstruction,
  52. 1:59so you can trust what you see is what the agent built.
  53. 2:03Now finish however you like, this is your workspace now.
  54. 2:07I'll tweak the label by hand,
  55. 2:08the kind of small polish you might prefer to do yourself,
  56. 2:11and then I'll open the integrated terminal and VS Code,
  57. 2:14run the server and make sure it looks right.
  58. 2:16Plus, when I click on the local host link,
  59. 2:18this will open in the integrated browser and VS Code,
  60. 2:21so I can stay here without having to jump
  61. 2:23into my main browser and we could see my little modification right here.
  62. 2:27So here's the satisfying part. Because it's the same work tree and branch, when I push,
  63. 2:32it flows right back into the pull request the app was already tracking. No copying files around,
  64. 2:36no manual reconnecting. One seamless workflow from start to finish. So you're never locked in.
  65. 2:41Open any session in VS Code and the session, its diff and its work tree are all waiting for you.
  66. 2:47Use the app to direct the work, drop into VS Code whenever you want to get hands-on.
  67. 2:50the choice is always yours.
  68. 2:52So go give it a try.
  69. 2:53Download the GitHub Copilot app at gh.io slash app,
  70. 2:57do some work with the session,
  71. 2:58and then continue in VS Code.
