- 0:05real-time project tracker, or basically anything else you can imagine with just one prompt to

- 0:11In this video, I'll show you how to create a Sheets Canvas, which is a custom mini-app
- 0:16based on the data in your spreadsheet.
- 0:18To create a Sheets Canvas, you must have access to Google Workspace with Gemini and edit access
- 0:23to the spreadsheet you're working on.
- 0:25Let's look at an example of when you might want to create a canvas.
- 0:28Here in my spreadsheet, I'm managing a complex project.
- 0:32Each row represents a task that our team needs to complete, with details about its due date
- 0:37and status.
- 0:39Currently, I have to manually filter through this sheet to understand how the project is
- 0:44progressing.
- 0:45To better visualize and understand the project's status, let's prompt Gemini and Sheets to
- 0:50create an interactive Kanban board, like the one you see here.
- 0:53To create my Sheets canvas, I go to my spreadsheet and click the canvas icon at the bottom.
- 0:58This opens the Gemini side panel and selects the Canvas tool automatically.
- 1:03Next, I can type a prompt to Gemini, such as create a project tracker or create a Kanban board, and press enter.
- 1:09From there, Gemini takes a few minutes to review the request and create the Canvas for me.
- 1:14And it's ready! The Sheets Canvas appears as a new tab right in my spreadsheet.
- 1:19The Sheets Canvas always stays in sync with my underlying spreadsheet data,
- 1:22which means I can create and update project tasks directly from the canvas or back in the original dataset.
- 1:29To make edits to the Sheets canvas, I can open the Canvas tool again and prompt Gemini with any desired updates.
- 1:36To share a Sheets canvas with others, you can give the person view, comment, or edit access to the spreadsheet.
- 1:42Now that you know how to create a Sheets canvas, you can prompt Gemini to create apps for all kinds of spreadsheets.
- 1:48For example, you can create a canvas that tracks sales in a live dashboard, helps you analyze data, such as customer reviews, for keywords or trends, visualizes information, like a seating chart.
- 2:02You can even create a canvas to gamify a process, such as an employee onboarding experience or training.
- 2:08To get the most out of Canvas, it's best to be specific and descriptive about what you want Gemini to build for you or what you want to learn from your spreadsheet.
- 2:15As an example, rather than just prompting create a dashboard, you could have details
- 2:20about the purpose of the dashboard, whether you want interactive filters, and more.
- 2:24And that's it!
- 2:25Now you know how to instantly transform how you use spreadsheets with the help of Sheets
