- 0:10Our mission is to be the world's most trusted driver and building a sustainable company is a big part of that.
- 0:17It's really important we repurpose materials like AV batteries and extend the product lifecycle as much as possible.
- 0:25When a battery is removed from Waymo, its life doesn't end there.
- 0:29there's a second life through our partnership with BTU to deploy the batteries to support local energy grids.
- 0:36My name is Freeman Hall. I'm the CEO of BTU Storage Solutions.
- 0:41Waymo's driving a whole fleet around the nation and beyond.
- 0:44When the batteries arrive at our facility in Lancaster,
- 0:48we're able to repurpose those same batteries and deploy these clean energy systems to help firm up the energy grid.
- 0:55It's really plug and play. We can take a battery from car to cabinet to being in the grid in just
- 1:01a couple of days. When the grids have an abundance of renewable energy in the middle of the day,
- 1:07the batteries will store that energy and then deploy it at peak demand hours when the energy
- 1:12grid is a little more stressed. We'll be receiving thousands of batteries from Waymo and these
- 1:17batteries can last seven or more years powering the grid with clean energy. And when we are
- 1:22operating at scale, we can power thousands of homes.
- 1:27We have a shared mission with BTU to support EV expansion and a responsible and sustainable
- 1:32end-of-life management.
- 1:34So there's a really good chance that the battery that's powering your Waymo ride will eventually
- 1:39be deployed to support the local energy grids and communities that we serve today.
